It is amazing how more confident I feel since having my smile improved. Even my husband says he can see my confidence. Wish I’d come to see Dr. Jay many years ago.

Dental Implants
Patients who have teeth missing may choose to replace them with dental implants, offered at our Bloomington, Illinois practice. Unlike dentures and bridges, dental implants fill not only the visible gap between teeth, but also the empty space in the gum, which prevents gum recession and the shifting of teeth that often takes place when a tooth is missing. Additionally, dental implants are strong, functional and resilient, and do not rely on adjacent teeth for support.
Placing Dental Implants
Dental implants have two parts: the anchor and the crown. The anchor, made of durable but lightweight titanium, serves as an artificial root which is surgically implanted into the jaw. Once the gum has healed and the anchor is secure, a porcelain crown is affixed to the portion of the implant that protrudes from the gum.
Results Achieved with Dental Implants
Dental implants are a popular option among our patients in Bloomington, Illinois because they look, feel and work like natural teeth. They can be used to replace a single tooth or a whole mouthful of teeth. Patients with dental implants should brush and floss regularly and see a dentist for checkups, but do not need any special products or tools to care for their implants. If properly cared for, dental implants will last for years to come.
Dentures
For our patients who may not be good candidates for dental implants or would prefer a less expensive option, we also offer high-quality full and partial dentures at our Bloomington, Illinois practice.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures can replace a section of missing teeth when the patient still has some or most of his natural teeth. Unlike a bridge, which is fixed in the mouth, dentures can be removed for cleaning and left out while the patient sleeps.
Full Dentures
Full dentures replace all of the teeth in a patient’s mouth. They are made and cared for just like partial dentures but may take more time to get used to. Patients who have full dentures usually have trouble speaking and chewing when they first begin wearing them. Dentists recommend starting with soft foods that are easy to chew and then slowly working up to a normal diet. Sometimes reading aloud helps patients get used to their new way of speaking.
Care for Dentures
Dentures must be handled carefully. The dentist will instruct the patient on proper denture care and cleaning. Usually, the dentist will recommend wearing the dentures all of the time until the mouth adjusts to having them in — and then wearing them only during the day. Leaving dentures out at night allows the gums to rest and improves oral health.
Bridges
A dental bridge replaces a missing tooth with a false tooth mounted between two crowns that are placed over the teeth on either side of the space. The dental crowns are cemented to the teeth, fixing the bridge in place. Bridges look like natural teeth, keep the other teeth in a patient’s mouth from shifting, and allow the patient to chew normally. Bridges should be cared for in the same way as natural teeth. With regular brushing, flossing, and dental checkups, bridges can last for many, many years. Bridges may provide a cost effective alternative to dental implants or a more permanent tooth replacement option than removable partial dentures.
Tooth-Colored Fillings
Dr. Chrisman and Dr. Wyse believe that every patient deserves to have a beautiful, natural-looking smile. For our patients in Bloomington, Illinois who need fillings and would rather not show them off, we provide tooth-colored, or composite, fillings. Unlike metal fillings, composite fillings are virtually invisible. The material will be specifically selected to match the color of a patient's teeth so that even fillings in front of the mouth will not be noticeable. Patients with fillings should have regular dental checkups and practice good oral hygiene for best results.
