Dental Bridges Help Restore Your Smile

How you would feel if one or more teeth are missing from your mouth, you would think twice before smiling. You would also not try to have a full-throated laugh lest it may display the loss of your teeth to the person with whom you are laughing. A missing tooth affects the appearance and functionality of the smile. When a tooth goes missing you would not be able to bite properly into a food, it increases the incidence of periodontal disease and further makes the mouth susceptible for further tooth decay.

Types of dental bridges

Dental bridges are the devices that are utilized for replacing a tooth gone missing from the mouth. Dental bridges can be fixed or removable. Fixed dental bridges are of various types and include conventional fixed bridges, cantilever bridges and resin-bonded bridges. In case of a typical conventional or a cantilever bridge, the tooth is given a shape around a missing tooth. Subsequently a dental crown is placed on the shaped teeth and attached to an artificial tooth which is called as pontic. Dental bridge can also be made of resin and a resin bridge requires less preparation of the adjacent teeth. Resin dental bridges are used in most cases for replacing the front teeth. It can however only happen if the gums are healthy and the adjoining teeth do not contain extensive fillings.

A resin-bonded bridge requires less preparation of adjacent teeth. It is often used to replace front teeth, provided that the gums are healthy and the surrounding teeth do not have extensive dental fillings.

Cost

Cost of a dental bridge is guided by accompanying procedures such as fillings, root canal in the adjoining one or two teeth, the artistic technique of the dentist and the lab technician, the location of the dentist, the insurance coverage for the whole procedure, the material used in the bridge and process involved in the bridging. Normally, the cost of dental bridges ranges from $1000 to $3000 taking into account the above factors.
